75 Things White People Can Do For Racial Justice
— Corinne Shutack
Libraries and archives are not neutral. They never were and they aren’t now.
How can white librarians (ie: most librarians), including myself, work better for all the voices represented in their collections and in their reading rooms? Because we absolutely are not doing a very good job of it right now.
The above is a small collection of resources and comments from BIPOC organizations and people (one white lady) regarding the pervasive system of racism that has lead to the death and suffering of thousands of people over hundreds of years. I insist, if you are a white person, to push past your feelings of discomfort, guilt, shame, to sit with these truths, seek them out in as many places as possible, work on being a better, more generous listener (which sounds trite, but so many people are TERRIBLE listeners) and do the fucking work to create a better world for those around you.
